When i first set out to buy my camry i was having problems with settling with a "practical" car instead of a sporty car. However, after a wash, wax, and getting the tinting done it looks hot.
Yea tints give the car a completely different look. Really adds to the look of the vehicle. I think that the first I do w/ my cars when I get them, 3% tint all around.
limo tint is cool, but i don't like it for my own cars. Visibility is an issue and 3% is a surefire way to get pulled over in california. In california anything on the front windows that blocks more than 20% light is not allowed, so pretty much the factory tint is as far as you can go. But for the most part cops won't pull you over unless its something like limo tint.
Actually, in CA, it is illegal to have any aftermarket front tints done. I believe the upper limit for OE tint is around 78% permissibility.
Stright from chp.ca.gov:
"Can I put after-market tinting on the windows of my vehicle?
The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:
The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.
The law prohibits any person from driving any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows, with certain limited exceptions.
However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced."
That said, my friends with 50% on fronts (for years) have not been hassled once. However, I know plenty of guys who have been cited for 20%.
thanks for the CVC citation, thats what i was meaning to say but it had been a while since i read it. On my Cressida i had 45% up front and never had a problem, now on the front of my camry i've got 38 or something like that, as long as i'm driving respectfully i don't think i'll have any problems. And besides that, i'm white, and so because cops have racial bias's in LA i'm even less likely to be pulled over. My friend, he's Indian and Japanese, got pulled over for having even less tinting than i had on my old car, he was pretty pissed.
great thread dude, im gettin tints soon as i can afford them, i drive ennough to get a tan while driving, and when im with my gurl, sweating is entirely not cool
Here in NY the law is completely the same as Cali i guess im planning on gettin 35% allaround except windshield OR 35% rears and 50% up front...i figure my camry has enough "good-kid" motive to keep me out of tickets, my driving however, doesn't, lol
ill post the pics when and IF i ever get this done
btw, anyone think the eBay "black gloss B-Pillars" would look good with tints? im doing it with the tints cuz some jerk knocked a dent into my BPillar, and the chrome and CF just dont suit my color (Sailfin Blue)

It would be painful to remove and re-apply. I paid a lot, maybe more than i should have. but i bought "true-grey" which has a lifetime no fade guarentee and has no metal at all in the tint, and since the antenna is built into the rear window its important to me, i can't live without AM radio.
