2nd Generation What to do first with an All-Trac?

Hey there...

Just got an 88 Camry All-Trac 5-speed, and I was wondering what I should do first with respect to maintainence, besides the fluid and filter changes.

Are there any special issues with the All-Trac that are different than other Gen 2 Camrys? Also, are there websites that have info on the All-Trac specifically?

Suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA.

Blaine

Congratulations on getting an extremely rare car!

To answer your questions:

1) Regular maintainence like fluid and filter changes, and normal 30k and 60k service should be enough for a Camry. Hell, my camry has 76k on it and the most expensive thing we've even done on it is a tune up (reminds me, i gotta change my timing belt soon).

2) I don't think there are any all trac specific issues on the 2nd gen. OEM parts are gonna cost you an arm and a leg, but just keep the 4wd system in top shape and you should be fine.

3) The guys here might be able to shed some insight on your 4wd system, though there aren't any specific camry all-trac forums that I know of:

Anyways, all-trac's are sweet cars, and if you are ever gonna be around the midwest and want to sell your car, let me know, and I would buy it this second.

2nd Generation

Phat:

Thanks for the quick response.

The Celica All-Trac site had lots of info. I should have thought about thata as the celica of the same year used the same engine etc....

Of course, having the naturally aspirated 2.0 liter, I have thoughts of the turbo version in the Celica. I'm a purist though, so doing a mod like that would be like fighting myself. I don't mind so much if it's tires, better brakes, etc....

As for parts...they seem high, although the money I sink into maintainence and parts for my BMW (95 525i) and Mercedes (91 420SEL) puts even the Toy dealer to shame.

Know of any good parts suppliers that you trust?

Thanks Again.

Blaine

2nd Generation

It's amazing, but someone offered me twice what I paid for it...I was a bit shocked.

I knew the All-Trac is somewhat rare, but I had no idea. I don't even know how many were imported to the US with a 5-speed. I guess I'd better go do research.

If I end up selling my All-Trac, I'll let you know.

I am totally serious by the way... I have everything I need in my posession to make it a 300hp AWD monster... (including great tranny and LSD rear diff)

I'm not looking hard for one at the moment, but if the opportunity came up, I'd jump on it. At least, as long as it doesn't have much rust.

White90:
Car has absolutely no rust. I'll remember that if I do want to sell. I'm in the process of having the front and rear strut assemblies replaced, so it will be perfect.

ECalc3:
The 3SGTE is very tempting. Maybe after I'm done with college. I have enough trouble with Diffy Q.
