I picked up my first Toyota ever (2007 Camry) and it is great! I am wondering about how to stop the doors from auto locking when the transmission is placed in gear. There is a procedure for this in the manual, which I tried, but did not work. Does anyone know how to turn the auto lock off? Thanks
That's how you do it....by following the steps given in the manual.
There is no other way.
Try again.

Well, you know? I've tried and tried and tried and tried until I got blue in the face, and I CAN'T GET THE "AUTO LOCK" TO TURN OFF, EITHER.
Or was that the other way around?
I've had the car for a month and a half now, and I just gave up on it when I tried it right after buying the car. I'd have to try it again to see which way it was, but I could cancel either the auto-lock or the auto-unlock, whichever it was, but not the other one. I tried and tried and tried, on a number of different occasions. Again, I finally just gave up on it, and left it in the default auto-everything mode. Very strange....
That is what happened to me, too. I tried the procedure in the manual over and over and the doors still lock. It's pretty simple to follow, so I thought it should work. Is it possible that only a dealer can change certain settings?
I wont know about this until I have my 2007 Camry in a few weeks but I know that I changed the auto-lock feature on my Gen 5 Camry and it worked. I actually wanted my doors to UNlock automatically when I turned the ignition on my car OFF so I followed the steps in the manual and it worked perfectly. Don't know what the deal with the 07s are though. I know I wasn't much help but I'm thinking maybe there is something that you aren't doing correctly simply because the procedure worked fine for me. But again, I dont have a lovely 07...YET!
maybe if you post what the instructions say in the manual, we could help you guys out? different interpretations of the instructions might be worth a shot
I had problems at first. I don't have my manual in front of me, but I believe one of the steps requires you to hold something for a set amount of time. To get mine to work, I speeded up that step. In other words, say you're suppose to hold something for 5 secs. Well I was counting one thousand one, one thousand two etc. I tried just counting one, two etc. I know it might sound alittle squirrelly. I changed mine to lock when the car gets to about 12 mph.

OK, I can type, so here goes. Let's stick with the "shift lever position" locking and unlocking for now, since that's what wasn't working for me:
------------------------------------------
AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKING
-- Locking linked with the shift position (automatic transmission models only) --
All doors are automatically locked when the selector lever is moved out of "P" position.
You can set or cancel the automatic door locking functions:
Be sure to apply the parking brake when performing the following operations.
-- To select the locking linked with the shift position:
1. Close all doors and set the ignition switch to ON.
2. Shift the selector lever to the "P" position.
3. Within 10 seconds of setting the ignition switch to ON, press and hold the driver's side power door lock switch in the lock position for 5 seconds and then release.
The doors will be locked and unlocked to indicate that the function is set.
To cancel the function, do the above operation again.
AUTOMATIC DOOR UNLOCKING
-- Unlocking linked with the shift position (automatic transmission models only) --
All doors are automatically unlocked when the selector lever is moved to "P" position.
You can set or cancel the automatic door unlocking functions:
Be sure to apply the parking brake when performing the following operations.
-- To select the unlocking linked with the shift position:
1. Close all doors and set the ignition swithch to ON.
2. Shift the selector lever to the "P" position.
3. Within 10 seconds of setting the ignition switch to ON, press and hold the driver's side power door lock switch in the unlock position for 5 seconds and then release.
The doors will be locked and unlocked to indicate that the function is set.
To cancel the function, do the above operation again.

So, that's the drill according to the 2007 Camry manual.

Dang, I should have tried that first, before typing in all of that manual stuff! I just tried it with a "quicker count," and it worked like a charm. Give it a shot!!!
glad to see someone could help! i'm sure someone would have suggested that eventually if jjthenovice hadn't posted, so your efforts were not wasted thoots its odd though, on the 05, you just hold the door lock button down until the door open lamp blinks whatever mode you're on.

I'll try it again. I was also counting slowly, thinking it had to be held for at least five seconds. I'll see what happens. Thanks.
oops....im thinking of when you change the beep mode.
Hmmm, that's another thing I'd like to change -- I think I'm ready to kill the door lock and unlock beeps. Of course, the manual says "take it to the dealer to have it done" -- bleah.
Do you know the routine to change those beeps -- specifically, to turn them off? I'd be most interested!
