question:

I'm a young girl and I know nothing about cars, really.
I just got a 97 camry and after a week.. I started having problems.

I was going up a hill and it just wouldnt go, like I couldn't get over 30mph.
As soon as I got up the hill, it started to overheat and I had to stop and saw that the radiator hose was busted and I ended up needing a new thermostat..

Is the overheating due to struggling up the hill or is the struggling due to overheating?
I just want to know before I go near any hills again!

the struggling is due to the overheating. because ur piping was busted, coolant drained from the system therefore not providing any means of cooling to the engine and other areas. because of this overheating.. the metal parts start to expand, etc and stops functioning like its supposed to.

So now that I've replaced the hose / thermostat it shouldn't struggle with the hills?

and if it does then its probably something to do with the transmission?

No it could still be an engine problem. How hot did the car get? It could have done permanet damage to the engine. Is it running okay now?

but yeah.. as long as u don't have permanant engine damage such as a blown gasket or somethin of the sort.. u won't have anything to worry about.

well, I don't think she'd be asking if there was a blown gasket, as she wouldn't be able to drive it at all
