Hello Everyone, My name is Matt and I'm new here, Obviously. I've searched the forum and I cant find anything to help me out with my question. I have a 1992 4cyl Camry LE. I want it faster. Its that simple. I haven't had it that long, so I haven't done much to it in terms of performance. I'm planning on a CAI to begin with. But the thing is that the car has over 200,000 miles on it. So I have two questions actually. One, is it possible to swap my 4cyl motor, with a 3.0 litre V6? I know its possible, but I don't want to consider it if its pricey and difficult to do. How much differently does it mount? And secondly, what can I do to my current 4cyl, to give it a few more ponies, and a little more get up and go? Thanks for you help in advance. And if there are already threads on this, I could not find them and I apologize ahead of time.
I'd say honestly, sell the car. Don't bother with a V6 swap, you're much better to buy a V6 instead...the swap will be pricey, cause headaches if it's not smooth. I can understand swapping in a 5 speed tranny which would help in performance, but no point swapping in another engine that already exists in the same car.
If you want something simple, try the CAI and a catback...and a tuneup if you're at 200K. Search on CAI, swap, you'll find a couple hundred threads for sure.
When I say pricey, I mean really expensive. i don't care about things like CAIs and other smaller mods. I just don't have very much money coming in, I'm only 17. I just want a bit more get up and go.
i'm 18 and let me tell you, just maintain the car, and use it to learn more about cars, do not put 'performance' parts into it. especially with higher gas prices its not worth lowering the great MPG that car gets. Unless you've got a lot, and i mean ALOT of money AND time don't try to make that i4 any faster, especially since that i4 is nothing like the 2006 civic si i4.
The only good thing about the i4 camry's are good gas mileage, and the ability to do custom body and interior work such as audio.
What about doing body mods and making it look good? I know I can do that, I have experiance there. I know I'm getting a nice system and a CAI and repainting it this summer. And definatly a nwe set of wheels.
Thats pretty much what I was thinking. I don't want a show car, btu i do want a car that looks better than what it does now. I have bare spots all over the car where there is no clear coat, and it looks pitiful. If I do all the prep work myself, I can probably rent the paint booth at my brothers work, SMI Collision and Repair, and just buy all the paint do it myself. Which would save me bunches of money. And As far as wheels go, I was looking at some discontinued wheels at www.discounttiredirect.com which would run me about $800 with tires. They look alright, and I don't need big expensive wheels, just something that looks good. I don't have enough money to buy another car, 'cause I pay all my expenses out of my wallet, no help from my parents. So I gotta have some money for insurance, and this camry is very cheap on insurance.
hmm well take it easy and try to really visualize the stuff on the car before you buy it...just avoid the rice path is all i can say. the camry is still a pretty conservative car, so keep it clean that way.
