Camry engine clicking, but it's not the starter

I have a 6cyl 94 camry, and yesterday I went to start it and it made a single click. I read some threads about the on starter contacts, but I'm starting to think it's not the starter and maybe something to do with the fuel pump because when I hold down the gas and turn the key, it starts right up. Any ideas on how to fix and if this is costly? Thanks for a great forum

when you turn the key two clicks right before the start, does it make some sound (the fuel pump activation sound).

Perhaps you're fuel filter is clogged, or the pump is going bad.

Unless you're good with cars, or know someone good with cars that can diagnose your car in person, i'd recommend taking it to a trusted mechanic to isolate and fix the problem. This should prevent damage, or further damage to your car.

Why would it be the fuel filter or fuel pump? If it was the car would crank over and just not start. The fact that it starts with him pushing the gas can only be a coincidence. If it has one click and does not start it is probably the starter contacts. Has been covered many times here before.
