Where can I buy starter solenoids?

I can find starters online for like $150, but I can't find just the solenoids anywhere. Any advice? (for 93 Camry)

I have never seen a solenoid sold separately from the starter. If you know of an electrical auto rebuilder in your area you can stop by that place and ask them if they would sell it, but my thinking is probably not. They need all the parts to rebuild that "trade in starter" and resell it. You can replace just the electrical contacts in the ssolenoid; that is what usually goes wrong. Do a search on this forum for "starter contacts" and read up. There is a DIY thread somewhere on the forum on solenoid contact replacement, including pictures, that someone was nice enough to post. Look for that.

or for real- check out a local starter/alternator shop for a rebuilt starter

I picked one up from a shop run by individuals for 100cnd with a core trade-in

now I don't expect to have to change my starter for anoter 11 years

autozone.com but it's like 80$ might as well just buy a new starter from a local shop

it's cheaper to go the the salvage yard and get a whole starter. Will run ya $30 or $40.

Here is a link that I used. But I did not have to replace the starter. All you need to do is get to the starter solenoid and clean and sand it down. Good as new after that.

leon thats a great idea - but all the solenoids ive seen on other cars were sealed, but maybe not toyota solenoids i hope...does any one have pictures or drawings of doing this.

And why replace your genuine toyota starter that cost $$$ to replace, for some chinese P.O.S. one when you could rebuild your OEM one for a few bucks. I found a site for buying starter contacts and they are cheap.

Now the only issue is to figure out what part number to get from them!

Look in the hardcore tech forum in the stickies and you'll find the mentioned thread with pictures and a paypal link for buying online parts.

edit* I didn't give you a direct link to it because there are a TON of very useful links in there you probably would like to see as well.
