Wheel Well Liner

I thought I had read something about this topic, but cannot find anything. My 07 has a felt liner in the rear wheel wells. I realize this is to reduce noise, but will these liners become encrusted with dirt? They also do not seem to fit tightly around the wheel opening and I wonder what will happen from the stuff that gets behind them, especially during the winter. Anyone removed these yet or would that create other problems?

Don't have answers to your questions, but I believe liner is designed to reduce water splash noise from rain, and not general road noise.

so far the lining on my 07 is fine. i wash my car at least once a week, including the wheel wells. they seem to fit nicely.
