Australia Doubts on Ethanol

Hey all,

Sorry if this has been asked before. I have an SV21 and i was wondering if i can add E10 to it. Which is 10% ethanol. The petrol station i usually go to has 2 blends of it. Regular which is 10cents less than regular, and a premium blend (98 octane) for only 5 cents more.

So my question are:
Is it safe for the camry?
I know of the fuel economy benefits, but are there any major performance benefits?

Thanks all and sorry if its been asked before.

Matt

you`d have to speak to Toyota about that mate...my 04 camry can run on all of those fuels as the computer can learn the different burn and octane rates, my XF wagon wont go near it as it only knows unleaded petrol with no additives, the ethanol blends played up with the `puter and it ran like crap. there is also the difference between fuel system components on different models in different countries. dont think for a minute that the toyotas running around here are anything the same as in brazil say...Holden found out what ethanol blend fuel can do to a car not prepped for it. anyways, sorry for the rant, just follow the top of the post and ring your Dealer or workshop.

actuaually you will get worse fuel economy outta ethanol. it may have a higher octane rating than isooctane but it has less energy when it burns

any efi toyota can run an e10 mix.

just that yeah the economy will suck unless you get a piggyback and retune the ignition and fuel curve to suit it.

Cold starting may take longer, fuel economy and power output will decrease about 5 to 10 percent.

I buy 10% ethanol blends every chance I get. It's typically only a winter blend in CO, but I seek out gas stations with the ethanol blend. The car loves it. The environment loves it.

I was through IA and NE last weekend...they are encouraging more people to use the blends by giving a price break at the pump on ethanol blends.
