4th Generation Anybody install a transmission cooler?

I was thinking about getting one for my car.

If anybody has installed one, I'd like to know what kind you used and how you installed it. Thanks.

I have a B&M Supercooler. I can't remember the exact size. It came in a kit with all the mounting hardware. Did you try searching? I remember there being a thread with pictures. Try solaraguy too.

That thing is huge. Aren't you worried about blocking air flow to the radiator?

Thanks for the helpful info and pic.

Next question, there's two lines coming out of the transmission.

Obviously one is IN and the other is OUT. Which is which? Thanks

Thank you. Now I'll go shopping around.

When you say LEFT, I assume that's LEFT side viewing from the front of the car (towards the engine) and the RIGHT means farther away from the engine.

Thanks,

The outlet is higher up on the transmission (where it comes out of the transmission).

Outlet is the pipe/tube that attaches to top of trans. you see the fitting. And inlet takes the fluid back to the pan.

You may want to check if the cooler has a thermostat (stacked plate cooler uses the fluid temp vs viscosity) to regulate flow at cold temperatures.

You want a warm transmission, but not too hot to cook the fluid.

FYI: i've been holding out for hayded 404 model. Thats the model i plan to install on my camry this comming summer. I've researched enough and know this what i want to do, smaller hayden's are good, but since i'm planning to keep the camry for a long time, might as well go BALLER BiG!

Thanks again.

What I heard is that I should keep the stock transmission cooler, but plumb the aftermarket cooler AFTER the stock cooler.

If anybody is wondering why I want to install a transmission cooler, I really don't drive the car very hard (on purpose), but I do more and more stop and go driving nowadays and there's a good number of hills to and from work.

You can install it before or after the stock cooler. Its up to you, but personally I'd install it after the stock cooler.

In other words: tranny ---> stock cooler ----> aftermarket cooler ----> tranny.

Buy one with stacked plate (bar and plate) construction. B&M are stacked plate.

I think 88le is right, that's the only way to plumb the fluid cooler.

If you were to plumb the aftermarket cooler first, it is just sending (air-cooled) fluid into the stock cooler (cooled by hot radiator water!) to get heated up some more and then to the tranny. Which mostly defeats the purpose of why you put the aftermarket cooler in the first place.
So you'd definitely need to route the hoses so the aftermarket cooler is that last one that gets the fluid i.e. right before it goes into the trans (if you want it to do the most cooling of the fluid.)
