Gen5 Rough Throttle Issue

This has been going on for a couple of weeks, and I've finally realized tonight (after driving my dad's Solara, which has the same 2AZ engine) that something is probably not right..

When I'm driving, and I'm stopped, my car idles just fine. 750rpm +/-. When I'm driving, especially after the engine warms up a bit, if I hold down the gas and open the throttle towards around 2800+ rpms, then the car runs fine and smooth and there are no problems.

But when I hit 4th gear, and cruise, the rpms will drop to around 2000-2200 rpms, and i'll really feel the throttle being pretty rough through the gas pedal. And it'll stay rough until I press down the gas pedal until I'm back at around 2600+ or so or until I let go of the gas and coast... but as soon as I get back on the gas, its rough again.

The only exhaust mod I have is the TRD muffler, so no o2 sensors were touched, and I no longer have my Injen intake, so my stock intake has been back in for about a month now. When I drove my dad's Solara tonight, at all rpms through the powerband, the gas pedal felt smooth and responsive. Also, it felt like my dad's 2AZ was a lot quicker and more peppy than my 2AZ, and he only has about 10k less miles than I do. So I'm thinking that whatever is causing my rough throttle problem might also be draining my engine performance...

Does anyone know what might be causing the problem?

Ok, so its definitely not a vacuum leak. I went out this morning and with the engine on, I sprayed every single vacuum line I could find thoroughly with carb cleaner, and there was no change in RPM as I was doing this. I checked every line, and they were on securely. The thing is, I highly doubted that it was a vacuum leak because if there was a leak, then I'm sure the idle would be shitty. But the car idles fine. Its only after a little bit of driving, and only when the RPMs drop to about 2000 or so once the car changes gears.

So any ideas?

well for a $200+ air intake, it must be something major for you to take it out. But it sounds so good, haha

^My dad's Solara is '02, like mine, so we have the same engine.

Either way, I fixed it! Haha. After checking the vacuum lines, I decided to check the throttle body. Decided to douche it up real' nice inside with carb cleaner, let it sit for a little bit, and then started her up. I threw a CEL 'cause of the carb cleaner, but after I reset my ECU, the CEL was gone and didn't come back, and my engine runs 10x better now.

arcimpulse, its going to be a hell of a project, but when I'm done, the intake will just be a drop in the ocean.

nice! FI I'd like to see the outcome of your project

The smog checks hinder me from going that way. Think a certain percentage of ppl are selected for smog check in specific stations if u live within an enhanced area. Cus my friend's parents car got selected to a specific station and couldn't go to one they usually go to.
