Gen5 How can you tell when an engine is floded?

Today in jersey it was poring like a motherfucker out there. Well i had to go to Seaside for something and i went through this puddle rather slowly because i didn't know how deep it was. Well it was deeper than i thought and my undercarriage was submerged for about 6 seconds. I know it was because when i first hit the puddle it let out a puff of steam. I guess it was from the hot exhaust in the cold water. Well after i got out of the puddle the car was like misfiring and sputtering. What are the symptoms of a severely floded engine?

Not firing up LOL! Does it still idle roughly? You have your stock intake setup though, right?

When someone says the engine is flooded, they are refering to the engine with excess gasoline. You're engine is NOT flooded with water. The symptoms you are is more likely the alternator belt slipping after being submerged in water, thus causing the spark plugs not to fire consistently. Or water got into some electrical component.

Well, if the idle normalized, you should be just fine. Listen to it this week and if it starts acting weird, post up your symptoms (PM me if you'd like) but I'm certain you PROBABLY took in some water but burned it all off. Hydrolock is the big one though.. Taking on so much water the engine "locks" up since the cylinders have taken on high quality H20
