I have a '92 Toyota Camry in mint shape...only 34K on it. Of course the one thing that goes bad is the one thing that usually never goes bad...the cigarette lighter. I was told I had to replace the entire element.
I have looked high and low on instructions to do so...I already have the part...but have had no luck whatsoever.
If anyone can tell me what to do, if this is a difficult procedure (I installed a new radio and that seemed pretty easy), or if there is a link I could go to for instructions I would greatly appreciate it.
34K on a '92? Why not save the money and just walk to work. Then you could have bought a nifty Zippo to go with your smoking habit.
I'm not sure, but I think that replacing it is a pretty simple unplug the old, plus in the new and you're done. Thats how it looked when I had the dash out in my car when I installed my XM radio.

I saw how it was hooked up when I replaced my radio. All you have to do is unplug the old one and plug the new one I assume. 34K on a 92? Did you get it from a grandma?
I have the same problem with my 92 camry. My cell phone charger just popped out ( it actually exploded into pieces!) one day and the lighter never worked after that. Where did you get the part from? As for checking the fuse; doesn't it share the same fuse with the radio? Or does it had it's own seperate fuse?
Are you trying replace the socket or the element? I tried to take socket apart once, gave up..replaced the entire bezel with one from a junker!
Also if the radio works on a gen 3-3.5 the lighter fuse is fine!

I guess I need the socket then. It's that whole piece that's connected to back of the dash trim where the raido is located. I can't find it online. I looked at many toyota parts sites and search for cigarette lighter/ or just lighter and nothing matches.

just go to the toyota dealer and ask for a printout of the part you need and how much it is, then you will see how much they want for it and also have the exact part # you need, just take the part # and plug it into google and you should be able to find something
go to auto zone and buy one man the lighter element is like $6 i just replaced mine, it works good id guess but like 02whitele said nothing beats a zippo

I got the part directly from the Toyota Dealership.

Radio is working fine and I noticed on the specs that they run off the same line. Thanks.
