After making the expensive upgrade to a K&N air filter which I was told is the best one out there, I'm now being told that because of the grease on it that it could be seaping in to my intake. Also, could this alone have a negative affect on my gas mileage? I am really considering taking it out now.
It's most likely a panel filter. Regardless of what type of filter it is, the oil used should have NO ill effects on your car in terms of mileage. Now, there are SPARSE reports of people complaining about MAF sensors gettin' damaged because of the oil but that's a rarity. Oiled correctly, this shouldn't be an issue. The reason it's oiled is to make up for less "filter" material which DECREASES the restriction of air. Your engine breathes easier
not too many reports of the MAF sensor being clogged with the oil but there are cases reported. I had an AMSOil performance filter with a load of oil and that didnt seem to do any damage to my car...so im sure you'll be ok.
that oil will kill your engine in less than 1000 miles!!! i think you should give it to me so that i can save you from this terror. you don't have to pay me for this good deed of mine. i'll even pay for the shiping because i am just that nice. i am ready to save you whenever you remove the filter.
i think i felt a small difference, not much increase on gas mileage, but with the removal of my resonator....i hear a nice growl at 3-5 thousand RPM and i ve only heard of one story about the grease corroding the intake, some kinda sensor on a passat, and that was from putting it in the wrong way....which reminds me to check mines when i get out of work today
You should b fine, dont worry too much

j/k
*i think you'll be fine buddy.*
lmfao...that is great.
As far as the K&N filter, I've had mine in for a while and no engine/intake issues, blown head gasket, wierd mileage, squeaks, chirps, or other mishaps whatsoever. Shouldn't be any worries.
K&N can be overoiled on some of their applications. You can usually tell from visual inspection if there's too much oil on the filter. If you're worried, take the filter out and blast it with an airgun or an equivalent high pressure source of air.
I have a K&N in my Vette because it came with it. I remove it every 1K miles and clean and reoil it. Just be careful with the amount of oil and you're good. However, if you don't already have one, I don't see why you'd get one.
If you want a growl out of your engine, get a decent aftermarket exhaust. I love the sound of my Magnaflow Catback, with a Dynomax Collector and a Magnaflow High Flow Cat. The exhaust stuff is stainless too, so it won't rust down the line. On my Vette it makes about a 10 - 15RWHP improvement, but expect your Camry to get a little less improvement.
Our Camry is going to be getting some Perf parts just to have a little more get up and go for my mom.

I haven't had any problems, I've just been told from different people/mechanics that the K&N air filter could possibly be having an ill effect on my mpg.
I'm going to assume that its more like a myth (the use of a K&N on a Camry) since I'm not the only one using a K&N on Camry.
