3rd Generation Stupid Q on Engine upgrade

I have a 96 4 cylinder stock camry and wanted to know what my engine code is: 5sfe or 3gste or other, im a little confused. i know 3gste are from an mr2 but then i see Cams that are 5sfe. thats one stupid q, the other is: would my engine be able to handle a turbo engine rebuild. i found some sites with great info that seems to fit my Cam but i want to ask the expects for advice on it. I of course will not be doing the install.

here are sites that i saw:

http://www.meisners.net/camry/Turbo%...tion/index.htm
http://www.poweredbytoyota.com/ssfeturbo.html

thanks for wasting your time in reading and hopefully posting a reply.

Yup.. 3SGTE only came in the Celica and MR2 (certain years and certain trims). Gen 3 Camrys (92-96) had only two engine options: the I4 2.2L 5SFE or 3.0 V6 IMZ-FE. As far as the block withstanding turbo, it's about your condition and exactly how much boost you plan to run. Meisner's site shows everything he did though. You should shoot him an e-mail as he's really helpful towards any questions you ask him

3SGTE powered Camry kids on TN: Ufoz and theWraith (if I'm not mistaken). 5SFE boosted kids: TheAmazingNate, Mesiner, 5sfte, and... uhh.. who am I missing? RedPhoenix but he blew the engine.. I forgot what happened.. Sucks though

They are all helpful in answering turbo questions BUT I suggest you look at this thread FIRST!

P.S. Sorry if I missed you on the list, I have a bad memory.. BUT yes, I'm jealous of each and every one of you...

Wrong

LordAnarchy you need to research your 92-96 V6 engine codes a bit more. Two types available. Jon.

There's no such thing as a stupid question. It's all the matter of who's giving the stupid answers.
