How much over the 'safe' range on the dipstick? if it's only 1/4 of a quart over i wouldn't worry about it. Any higher and it's time to loosen the drain plug a bit. I've never overfilled a car in the shop but if I did, even a little bit, i'd be draining the excess out.

If you're really that worried about it just get it in the air again and drain some out...

I agree with Novice_cardude. There's a reason there's a full mark on the dipstick.

try to let some out is all i can say. Ive gone about 3mm over the full line and thats fine but if its like 10mm...i'd DEFINATELY drain that out. you may actually be safer having the oil be inbetween full and low vs above full.
besides...your car doesnt burn the oil up so it wouldnt matter.

I would say up to 1/2 quart overfilled should be OK. Any more and I would agree with draining a bit out. The engine is designed to have fresh oil sprayed on all internal moving parts by the oil pump. When a car is overfilled too much, the crankshaft actually sits in the oil in the pan and whips the oil in to a foam as the crankshaft rotates at high speeds. Foams contain air bubbles. Obviously, air does not lubricate as well as pure oil.
