Since their is no engine using the 3sgte in our camry's, how did yall pass the emissions test? I want to sell my camry and get an older one to swap the engine in but dont know if it will pass emissions crap. So how did yall do it??

In CA because of CARB laws I believe the engine has to be the same or newer and that is part of the emissions process. Here in Maryland they don't even check under the hood, they check either using OBDII or from the tailpipe to make sure hydrocarbons, etc are under a certain level. Jon.

Agreed. My last VEIP test was under 5 minutes from start to finish. Plugged in OBDII, saw green light, was out and about.
My camry doesn't pass emissions. It's not a 3SGTE (although I wish it was), but I just have my license registered in a county where they don't check emissions. Go get an inspection and they do safety inspection and that's it.
So if your saying if I get a 88-96 toyota camry, put a 3sgte in it make sure everything is good(catylatic converter, stock muffler, etc) it would more likely to pass emissions in maryland? Im just curious, b-cause I dont want to spend alot of money swapping the engine in and not pass emssions or whatever you know what I mean... Any I see alot of people swapping the 3sgte engine into their car with no alot of problems.
I am a electrician, i pretty know much about wiring stuff if thats the case. I'be been reading that this is the hardest part b-cause you have to wire it up as a front wheel drive. Also since most things bolts up to the 5sfe motor mounts, i just gotta find the right suspension components am I right or what?
in CT, if it is 95 or later, they still do just the sniffer for emissions... after 96 all they do is plug in an OBD2 scanner and see if you have any engine codes. so if you are doing the swap in a 95 or later car, then you are OK, if the engine is tuned properly and the A/F ratio is good along the rpm range.
Ok, I was researching that I should find an all trac clip? Slightly easier. Ok thanks for the shopping list zoni. I will be looking for parts now, but starting the project at the beginning of July.

Just remember that there is a lot of fabrication to fit a 3s-gte to a '92 or later Camry... Nothing that can't be overcome with a welder and some skill, but it is NOT a bolt-in (like it is in the gen2 Camry).
An all-trac clip is a much better place to start than an MR2 clip.

he isnt in cali, land of the emissions nazis... therefore, there are no referees, why dont you just find out what your local laws are... and then tell us, so we can helpyou further. the 3sgte swap is much tougher than i make it seem to be in that post... i am doing it now with all gt4 parts... the wiring is a pain in the ass... make sure you have someone around who KNOW wiring. make sure you can do that before you even THINk about swapping. i am neck deep into wiring mess now, and i have to sort it all out and make patch harnesses and so on... believe me, it is TOUGH.
I'll guess I will have to email or goto the dmv to see what the requirements are. If I am not able to do the swap I guess I will have to get an all-trac or mr2.
Or I went to the MVA website and this is what I found.
