I experience a really tough transition from deceleration to acceleration on my manual 2005 Camry. I try to pass it smoothly but it jerks, even shocks sometimes. It's worse when AC is on. I believe that it happens since the emission control system cuts a gas supply too sharp. Does anybody know how it could be adjusted? Thanks.
And just for clarity, this happens when you're slowing down while in gear and then you accelerate? If so, how hard are you accelerating?
Which engine do you have?
Bob
It happens on any gear, but essentially it's much more smoothly on the fifth gear when it's worst on the first one. It does happen when I slow down in any gear and then try to accelerate. I try to start my acceleration as smoothly as I can. Otherwise it really shocks. Same when I change gear - it's hard to match RPM exactly. As I've mentioned, it's worse when AC and/or cooling fans are on.
On this new a car you would think it would be an engine issue as the other people are talking about. But its also possible it could be a broken engine mount causing this jerking?
could be a cracked clutch my supra did that before the dammed thing just sploded, and took most of the motor with it, id prolly get it chekced out its still under the warranty, the best way to explain your problem is to TAKE the SERVICE MANAGER on a test drive if a service tech decides to call it a no fault or soemthing .

I have tested it with the service manager. They let me know that this happens due to to the emission control system operation. However, they don't want to change any emission setting although it's technically possible. It seems that I need to solve this problem myself.

Hopefully its not this obvious, but how long have you been driving a standard? If you're just learning, that could be your problem. If you're in 4th gear, and slow down to 20mph, while staying in 4th, it's gonna jerk when you try to accelerate. Same thing when changing gears. That's what it sounds like to me.
If you're a manual driving veteran, sorry for posting the obvious. It must be something else.

Actually I was never driving a car with auto transmission. This one is my sixth or seventh manual car. For the last 5-6 years manual driving became more complicated since the emission control has it's impact. It cuts a gas supply during a shifting and deceleration. However, it shouldn't work so bad like in this particular car. All manual Camry's (I believe - all manual Toyota's) come from Japan with Japaneese gas in the tank. It's quite different from the American gazoline. When I've tested this car it worked good enough. It was changed dramatically after the first gas filling. I have also heared about the same problem from couple of more people.
I believe if I could slightly adjust the responsiveness of the emission control system it would work more smoothly. Unfortunately, dealer doesn't want to do that since they don't see it as a problem. I would do it myself if I'd know how to do that.
Both US and Japan makes Manual Camrys. If yours have a removable foglight cap and tow hooks, it's from Japan. If not, it's a US bulit.
Well, it's even simpler - if VIN starts with J - it's Japaneese. American Camry's have VIN starting with 4. I am not aware about any manual Camry 2003-2006 built here. Not sure about 2007 model.
