Update: polyurethane motor mounts done [pics]

Well i finished filling the passenger side torque-stay on my V6 (and on SpectraBlueCams's I4) with liquid polyurethane (specifically 3M Windo-Weld Super Fast Urethane. You can find this stuff in Canada at Carquest or UAP NAPA stores (where I got mine for CAN$19.99)

The torque-stay (aka. dogbone mount) is the first mount im doing. As you can see from the pictures, my original rubber piece was torn to shit and I felt this especially from the 1-2nd shift and coming on and off throttle. Not to mention the fact that I get really bad wheel hop during hard launches (which has been reduced much since I got my Koni's) but its still a problem. If reinforcing the torque-stay doesnt solve it, then the next mount im gonna do is the rear mount, which is part of the axle bearing carrier. Im gonna leave it till monday evening, 48 hours, until i put it back in, and ill post my driving impressions as sson as i can.

WARNING: If you are gonna do this also, use disposable gloves and an old shirt or jacket because this shit gets everywhere and doesnt come off without terpentine.

My torque-stay mount before, torn up and loose:

My custom polyurethane filled torque stay:

Ok, mount was installed last night but the weather was pretty bad so dry-road experience isnt available yet, but so far im very pleased with the mount!!!

Power seems to be transfered to the ground better and shifting is very smooth and no jerking in between shift no matter at what RPM.

Getting off the line in 1st gear is much more effortless, again, because the torque effort is getting to the wheels and not in stretching the motor mounts.

A slight brake pedal vibration that I had before is now GONE and the car just seems to run super smooth now.

Im sure that it will be even [b]better[\b] once the rear mount is done. Can't wait till the weather is better so that I can do that.

Also, no vibrations in the cabin due to this mod. Some people who use polyurethane motor mounts complain about vibration but that could be because they have done all of their mounts, or because they use a harsher durometer polyurethane. The windo-weld compount is a 60A Shore rating which is very mild polyurethane. Some people compare it to the stiffness of tire rubber, but thats one persons opinion.

I will update when other mounts are finished in the future.

once u've done all the mounts u'll love it ratko.. im doin the bushings in the rear of the car soon... but the front is all done and the power transfer like u have referred is there also better braking and the weight transfer is not as abrupt as before with the rubber mounts...

hehe... im assuming you bought more than one tube of it then?

so how do you do the bushings, just coat them lightly?

i heard that leaving them in an oven @ 200 degrees farenheit will cure a thin layer in about 1 hour... never tried it but its a thought.

3 tubes hehehehe but not finished yet... i may need to buy more for the rear ones... i didnt go into the oven i just left it at room for 3 days... to cure... i was thinkin oven but i wasnt sure if i did it my mom might kill me for fuckin around with her oven!!! hehehehehe

but that's a good idea i may try that... i plan to coat it thick in the rear basically covering all the spaces there... each space (in my mind) is a flexpoint a point which the bushing is allowed to move... so if i prevent it from moving then the polyurethane works.... unless im wrong wat do u think?

Looking good Ratko! That's the same thing I did to my Integra's upper engine mounts, and that alone made a difference.
