Overdrive

Well me and my dad are having alittle disagreement about the overdrive, he says that if your driving normally you leave it on and it saves gas, but i disagress. i think if you leave it on its not for normal driving and uses more gas than if you didnt have overdrive on. Anyones opinions?

many many times this has been up.

over drive on = allowing car to use 4th gear.
over drive off = allowing car to only use 1-3 gear

therefore. daddy is right. always listen to daddy huh ? lol

Of course, O/D off uses more gas. If O/D is off, you don't get to use your 4th gear, therefore you are going to be revving a higher at any given speed, which means more gas. Besides, read you manual. It's in the manual.

Also if O/D off, the torque converter doesn't lock up so you are losing power there and use more gas because of it. The torque converter only locks up in 4th gear.
