3rd Generation do i disconnect my negative battery cable off when pulling harnesses apart??

hi quick question guys,i was pulling out my dash of my gen 3 to get to my cluster the other day and i realized i had to pull apart a few wire harness clips for hazards,lighter,mirror control etc...
i forgot to take my negative battery cable off.so i stopped took it off and then kept going.my question is,is it necessary every time to disconnect the negative battery cable ???will it damage anything if i didnt disconnect it every time??thanx guysss

it is best to. but ive actually done it many times without and its been fine. you should though to be safe.

I have pulled my dash out many times, and not once have i ever disconencted the battery. The truth is, you really don't need to disonnect the battery for a lot of things.
