i started running synthetic in my car after seeing the difference between the $1.05 and the $4.04 qt oils.. and i was wondering if there is anything else i can add to my oil here and there to clean up the insides like the cams and so on... oh and if i put a biger alternater will that cause any problems
The only safe way to clean inside your engine with chemicals, is just to do a couple oil changes one after another.
Putting anything besides engine oil into the engine, is counterproductive in my view. If you add any kind of solvent, etc. into the engine, it is allowing the engine to run with poor lubrication (because solvent is NOT lubricating oil). And possibly creating more wear.
My valves were making my engine sound like a '78 Ford pickup when I took off after freezing cold startups. Letting the engine warm up of course lessens the issue but I thought about cleaning up my engine with chemicals.
I figured I'd wait about 500km until my next oil change and drop some cleaner inside so it wouldn't stay as long in my engine but haven't done it yet, probably next oil change in about 1500kms if I don't read too many negative comments about it when searching forums.

do not use any internal engine cleaner. it will loosen up crud and carbon inside of your engine and that crud could be whats keeping it from smoking like a freight train. it also cleans the metal so well, it washes the productive oil layers away from the metal and can cause scoring on start up. its just bad alltogether imo.
I have tried AutoRx its certainly not snake oil, it removed all the tar in my engine.
I did check under the valve cover before i did the treatment, and a 1000km later
i checked again and all the tar was gone, a bit expensive yes but it works, those
engine flush products you use before your oil change doesn't do anything.
A guy I knew went to one of those "Quick Lube" places and was talked into an "engine flush". Apparently it loosened up some old carbon deposits that ended up blocking his oil passage. Blew his motor.
Last I heard he was involved in a lawsuit to get them to pay for damages.
jhbhatia, i am not fond of contradicting anybody, but plz DO NOt use ATF in your oil...! We ruined a $5000 engine at work because some one did this.
I didn't say i use it, its something i've heard over the years. Some people use it. I just gave him an option (a tool) and did ask him to research himself. I've not done it myself and don't plan to do it..its just a suggestion. Glad you have better experience than me. Cus the oldies that worked on cars before the ecu's took over did add a little bit of atf. I'm not saying positive or negatives things...just pointing to another option!

The Motor Vac I am talking about is not one of those engine flushes......It is way more then that.
I would never go to a Quickie Lube.
This is where I have my Cars done at....www.denny'sautodiagnosis.com
They are very very careful on any machine they add to their shop. I am sold on the Motor Vac system...

Great stuff. I put 1/3 in the crankcase oil, another 1/3 in through the brake booster, let it run for a minute and watch the white smoke come out the tail. Then I change the oil and filter right away, dump the remaining 1/3 seafoam in the gas tank and i'm done! Paid for itself in gained MPG.
