A friend has a 89 Camry LE v6. The "open door" dash light, dome light, and key ignition light are always on. I have ohmed all 4 door switches to see if one of them is broken, but they all work. The only way I can get the lights to go off to keep the battery from draining is to take out the dome fuse. Can anybody offer any suggestions as to what the problem is? Or where some kind of short could occur?
Somebody I know said his girlfriends car was doing the exact same thing. He said it ended up being a time delay relay. Does anybody know where this would be located?
This is one of the fuse boxes, the one behind the drivers side kick panel. Do you know which one is the time delay relay?
Also, when I unplugged the "Dome" light fuse under the hood to get the lights to go off, the radio also goes off. Is this dome light fuse for more than just the dome light, or did the radio cause problems being hooked up. Maybe causing the relay to go out???
Before pulling relay, please try one more thing: disconnect the wire from trunk switch and insulate it.
Trunk switch button may be too low for latch to press on it . Common problem on Toyota sedans with torsion bar springs for the trunk lid.
I just did it, and there is no change. Lights stay on. With the switch plugged in, the open door light does not change when pressing and releasing the botton manually. Although the light inside the trunk does opperate. So that should not be the problem.
The trunk isn't connected to the door ajar light on the dash. Did the 89 come with a timer? I know that the 93 didn't. But you are sure that all of the door switches are closing?

Check the electrical diagrams in your service manual.

I don't know if there is a timer. There is an ignition key hole light, so I would think it would stay on for a certain amount of time after the door closes???? I am not sure about that either. Yes, I am sure all the door switches work. They all ohm out correctly. Whether a wire has been nicked somewhere and is grounding out. I'm not sure. Thats one thing i'm working on now.

I don't have a service manual.. I checked the glove box, nothing.. Its not my car, its a friend's.
I got the problem fixed.. It turned out to be three of the door switches. They were functional when tested, but didn't go in far enough to activate the switch, and turn off the light.
