4th Generation How does the alarm work? -99 Camry

I recently purchased a 99 LE Camry. If you do the wrong thing (which happens frequently) the alarm goes off. This can be silenced by pushing the keyless remote button. Is there anyway I can turn this thing off? The security system has a push button on and off switch, however, the push button doesn't seem to have any effect. By the way, the push button can be removed from its socket but this doesn't seem to shut it off either.

The remote is separate from the key. It has 2 buttons arm/dis and aux.
FCC ID ELV777K. I plugged this information into keylessride.com and it returned with the right remote and 99 camry which was correct. So, now I think it is factory.

I took a pic of the remote but could not figure out how to get pic from my desktop to the post.

I searched other threads and learned how to program a remote but not how to turn the alarm off. I am down to my last remote and I don't want to be dead in the water.

you will have to be more specific in what it is that you do that sets off the alarm. Also, is the alarm a siren or just the horn honking and lights flashing?
