4th Generation hollow knocking sound from rear driving over bumps?

What could this be from?

-I hear this hollow knocking sound that times with both thick cracks in the road, and with potholes and speed bumps.
-Over cracks it sounds more like a popping sound.
-It's more pronounced when I fold down the rear seats.

Would it be from the tires? Or from the suspension?

Strut mounts. I had that problem when I got my Camry too. I replaced the struts and strut mounts and I don't have the problem no more.

Good luck!

How hard was it to do? Could you do it yourself? And how much did it cost?

YUP! 90% chance that's it. If you have no car work experience, either bring it to a show, or have a freind that knows about cars help you and teach you. You need spring compressors and a ratchet set for it.

Well, it could be the sway bar bushings, but if it happens constantly it's probably the strut mounts. Have someone sit in the back seat and listen for if the sound is coming from head level (seems to come from the speakers) or from below them.

If it's the sway bar bushings ... I don't know how hard those are, they really can't be that difficult. The struts are only hard for the first one. After that, you know what you're doing and it's really not that bad. A breaker bar, ratchet, nice socket set and a spring compressor is all you need.

^ I didn't use a breaker bar! But I did almost get a brain aneurism trying to loosen then.

So, yeah, you need one, .

Ok, so rear sway bar bushings from a quick google priced @ ~$10/piece:

http://www.prostreetonline.com/oem/w...ay+Bar+Bushing

About how long labor/how much would it cost to have them installed?

Also strut mounts are about $65/piece:

How much labor/how much would it cost to get them installed?
