How long do platinum spark plugs last? 50,000 miles? The second owner bough the car as "certified used vehicle" at 34217 miles, do dealers do a tune-up and change spark plugs before they labeled it as "certified"?
I just bought my car at 69k miles, I'm thinking maybe I'd wait a little longer before I do a tune-up and change the spark plugs. Or should I do it now? It has 71k now.
They are "suppose to" last 100K miles. I always change plugs at 50K miles. Why not? They are not that expensive. Also I put in the Iridium plugs...they are suppose to be better then platinum ones.
Also check your fuel filter...that should be change even more so then the plugs.

The manual for my 98 recommends changing the platinum plugs at 60,000 miles. I did mine at that mileage and they looked light they were brand new. That said, I'm not sure I would want to try to get them out of the head at 100,000 plus miles, so 60,000 or so sounds like a good time to do them. Incidently, in my area Autozone had the best price on one of the 2 dual ground electrode tipped plugs that were recommended in the manual.
my haynes manual says to check plugs every 15K but does not specify how long the plus would last. Wires are to be checked every 30K and replaced as necessary.
I took out my denso plats that were probably replaced at 60K, and they look browned, kinda burnt but not black. So do i need to change them? I'm at 97K currently.

I think the 50,000 mile change out is premature . I am at 197,000 Km & changed them once. A spark is a spark -- If it works leave it alone Color means nothing about the plug but does tell you if brown-- You are getting good fuel/air regulation. I ran a six cylinder truck with different plugs in each cylinder -- They all did the job
Well i will change out the plugs at 50K. It is the "Old" in me that does that. It is not that expensive to do either. (Same with a fuel filter...every 25K. Never know what kind of dirty gas you get. No one can tell me these Gas Stations have clean main tanks. ) I rather have cleaner burning plugs then the chance they get all fouled up. More then one person drives the cars here. Mrs Dood is a lead foot in town...she thinks ever car we have is a sports car.
I am anal about oil changes too. Even though I get more highway miles I will still change the oil every 3K no matter what.
