High Amperage Alternators For Camry's

Anyone interested in 200 amp alternators? I might be able to get them for a good price. All new internals, with warranty.

Both V6 and 4 Cyl.

I admit ignorance.

What is the amperage of factory alternator?

Does installing a higher-amperage alternator require any other alterations to the car?

Will it drag more on the engine?

^factory amperage on the 4 cyl is 70 or 80 amp, not sure about the 6 cyl

usually you dont need any other alterations unless you get a much bigger housing, then you would need adapting brackets

and no it will not drag more on the engine, more like help it

I'm thinkin' he meant that the alternator won't drag on the engine anymore than a stock alternator would and that not only will that not change but it will also give the engine an added benefit of a crispy electrical charge to run a bit more efficient.

Or am I wrong?? LOL

Meanwhile, I was interested in gettin' one.. if the price is right.. for a 4cyl, 94 Cam. PM me or if you'd like, just update on this thread... How big will it be over the original?

Won't do anything to efficency. The engine will run the same, however things that draw a heavy amperage will not affect things like the lights, etc.

An alternator takes power (HP) to make electric current.

Example with rounded numbers:

The alternator (I think 90 Amp in my 5S) will give out about 1260 Watts ( I am figuring at 14V) at peak load / capacity or equivelent to 1.7hp.

The amount of mechanical power in put must be larger than 1260 Watts due to losses in the belt, and the alternator itself is not 100% efficent.

So being consetvative lets say the 90Amp alternator draws 2hp. ( making alternator 83% efficient)

746Watt = 1hp.

200 Amps at 14v is 2800 Watts or 3.75hp. so if we apply the above, you will need about 4.5 hp input to alternator to get the 200 Amps.

In terms of helping... Yes for the making drawing so much electrical power (ie amps, TVs, lights etc.) possible AND keep the engine controls and sensors operating properly.

No for dragging or using horsepower. You cannot get electric power for free. Larger or higher output alternator will drag more.

I can get them for any year/engine. I won't have any pricing info for another few days. Just wondering if there is any want for it out there, seems like there is...I will keep it as cheap as possible.

Same housing, plug and play.

As posted above a stronger alternator will take some power, but probably very minimalistic.
