My 4 cyl camry has a tranny with 5.6L capacity, any danger if I overfill it? I have drained & refilled it 3 times to get most of the old fluid out. I find that it shifts smoother if I overfill it 1.0L above the 'hot max' mark.
I did the same thing... but it puts unecessary strain on the transmission I was told, and it might start to leak around the gasket.... I eventually had to get mine worked on... drain, flush, replaced gasket and filter.

There are reasons the engineers included those max level markings on your tranny dipstick.
I dont know any specific consequences but on something as factory spec as fluid levels, i wouldnt stray from factory specs. Its like overtorquing nuts and saying that it feels more solid because of it, but you arent aware that the extra torque on that nut may have negative affects on other components.
Stay within factory specs with fluid levels, that shouldnt be debatable.
how often are you supposed to change the tranny fluid.. i have a qusetion.. everytime i put the car into reverse.. auto tranny.. the light don't come on in the back.. well sometimes.. why is taht? and it don't light up on the guage.. like R.. nothing.. but i still go back wards.. can anyone help me?
I can't remember when was the last time the camry had a transmission flush, I've been meaning to get it done. Anything else I should do with this like get the filter changed too?
Thanks

It's called a strainer in the service manual, basically, after dropping the transmission pan, there is another part that can be taken off to clean it, soaking it in new A/T fluid.
If you overflow your tranny then it might not shift. Because there's too much fluid it won't flow as well and not shift. This happened to my friend while he was at the track, it wouldn't shift out of first.
well if the light isn't coming on when it is shifted into reverse
then the tranny is out of alignment and the reverse switch is not making a connection to make the light go on
not sure if it is in the tranny or connected to the linkage of the handle
but the strange thing is that when i wiggle it up/down.. then it blinks.. and if it do that for a while then it lights up again.. don't know about that.. does it still consider to be out of alignment?..
Speaking of tranny fluid....I heard that you shouldn't have your transmission flushed on an older car if it hasn't been flushed before and that you should only drain and refill the tranny instead. Anyone have first hand experience or sound reasoning behind this?
yah it sounds like it is only a problem with the switch for the reverse light if you moving the gear selector ammends it
don't worry about it leave it unless it bothers you or you do a lot of drriving in reverse
I would imagine that, other than the problems everyone else has mentioned, that overfilling the transmission would cause the trans to a) suck up even more power than the slushbox was already, and b), which is a direct result of a, eat more gas. Only seems logical... I might be wrong though.
