First, I have to say that I am a n00b to the car arena.
I have a problem with the rear seat in my 97 LE. One seat folds down, though the passenger seat does not. This problem has been making me angry for a while now.
Everyone I ask just says "the seat must be locked". This is not the case, when the lock is in the up or down position, the seat remains locked. This leaves me to belive that something inside the seat has become disconnected. Any pointers?
A year or so ago I installed a JVC KD-s5050 deck into the car, works excellent for a nice little 100 dollar head unit. A few months ago a purchased an mp3 player. This hold all of my music, but I have no good way to connect it to my car audio system. I have tried a few FM transmitters and declared them garbage. Recently, I've reinstalled my stock tape deck and used a tape adaptor to connect the two, this works fine, but I'm still looking for a higher quality way to get the job done. Outside of buying another head unit with an audio in, any ideas there.
Finally, I've been looking into mods that I can do to the car myself. All I can come up with (preformance wise) is an intake mod, which seems to offer little in the way of power for the money spent on it. What should be my first performance mod, even if it requires taking it to a shop?
Well, FM transmitters are bad for me because I drive through different radio markets. During this trip I have to change the station on the transmitter about 5 times. (not that I go through 5 markets, but I do need to change it 5 times)
and I hadn't thought of a manual conversion... I like that idea.
You can get a amp and have AUX inputs on that for your mp3 player. Other then that I think getting a new HU with MP3 compatibilty is the best way.
Try removing the seats that don't move. The bottom seats are only hooked on by clips, so if you wiggle it around or try pulling it out, it comes right out. The seat where the seat belts on the left and right are has a screw on it, so you have to remove the screw then be able to remove the sides.
Exhaust and intake are usually the first things people do, yeah they might not offer a huge increase, but you have to spend money for bigger improvements. Maybe just spend money on tints or a nice sound system.

You have checked the little switches on the backs of each rear seat, right? (I think that is what you are referring to, but that is what I am betting is locked, so double check...) They are visible when the seat is folded down (look at the one that works).
My guess would be that the seat switch is in the locked position on one side. If that is not it, the switch may be broken on the inside of the seat, in which case I would start by removing the seatback as described previously.
Well, it looks like its time for me to go poke around. Though, even though I love the camry (I've never seen such a reliable car, and its comfy) a friend is trying to get me to buy a 300zx. Maybe I keep both cars? naa... I'll just keep my camry.
maybe I can rig up a splitter or perhaps a switch for the auntenna and but another one in the dash for the transmitter? So i can use the glass one for the radio and the new one for the transmitter?
