DIY Spark Plug Wire Replacement Help Needed!

Hi folks,

I am thinking of replacing all my Spark Plug wire on my Gen 3 V6 Touring, just wondering what are the steps involved???
BTW i was thinking of replacing the spark plug at the same time, with the GEN 3 V6 model it look so complicated, there are wire everywhere....just wondering can it be removed without unplug all the wires???

Cheers

To change the plugs the wires have to come off. Period.
If this your first time doing it, just do one wire and plug at a time. Make notes on which wire goes where, both on the engine and in the dist cap (which you should probably change as well, along with the rotor) in case things get confused, And match each plug wire to the similar length one of the new set.

And i always am sure to use antiseize compound on the plug wires. And dielectric grease on the plug wire connectors. This makes changing them next time much easier.

you have the 1mz-fe engine right?

the rear 3 are crap to change. i have the scars on my arm to proove it! It wouldnt have been too bad if i had the tools but it took me about 1.5 hours to do the rear 3 and 10 minutes to do the fronts.

You will have to take out the wires i order to change the plugs anyways, but yeah, only take out one at a time. The plugs wont be easy to mix up as they are different lengths. Once you get in there you will see its very obvious.

Then, 3VZ-FE is easier than 1MZ-FE. It looks you don't have enough space for the rear 3 plugs. But actually you have. Look carefully behind the intake plenum. Yes, it is painful job, but you can change the rear plugs without removing the intake plenum.

You will need two 6 in extentions and one u-joint. The setup is
(1) plug socket (2) 6 in extension (3) u-joint (4) 6 in extension (5) ratchet

In my experience, taking out the wires are harder than the plugs.

Actually, it is called "universal joint". Here is what it looks like at Sears website

As I said, it is very painful job, but it's definitely possible.

Regarding the spark plug, many people here prefer Denso Iridium. But it's your choice.

Good luck.

denso iridium is easier to find at an auto store too. they are 12.99 per plug at autozone where i live. i have yet to find NGK in an auto store where i live.

Denso Plats are 7.49 per plug.
