i always see silver KYB GR2s....never a black one.

might be worth it to give KYB a call to double check.

Also keep in mind KYB makes a lot of OEM applications so you might have an OEM strut on your hands.

^They should have a manufacturers site, search Yahoo!
But when you have a mismatching strut, thats not good. And as far as I know, the stock ones are black..

The black ones are direct replacements for the silver ones. I had the same question when I ordered mine from tirerack.com. I got 3 silver & one black (right rear). I had them put on my 92 camry and they ride nice.

reposting this

i just had my " E-bay GR2's" installed,well just the front 2 ....

the shop that installed em said they ARE GR2'S and that he double checked with his place where they get theyre auto parts but they also said that i shouldnt of got em online n that they get gr2's for 80$ a piece he also said from his place they get either black or silver ....so i dunno..
..so any way the ride is stiff and no complaints so far but that guy from ebay can still go suck a fat one...

.the rear shocks/struts are official the numbers match just diff colors i'll prolly list em on ebay for sale with no reserve

re: kyb gr 2 black vs silver

I had the exact same result as enj1108 ... tire rack shipped three siver and one black ( rear )
all mounted up as oem and rides more firm now ... when I called the rack service # to inquire
was told black is same spec as silver but from different factory. Hope all went well for you.
97 camry 66k at time of diy install... now 87k all is well
