I was curious what kinda benifits i would get if i took the resinator off the stock intake air box thing, ive already tried the intake things in the past but i was hanging out with a friend of mine who has a late 90's ls1 camaro z28 and he was telling me about his custom cai setup and what his stock intake looked like, and i got to thinking what my car would do/sound like if i took it off...
i have a 96 camry le (5sfe)... anything i need to do if i take it off that needs to be done so the car dont freak out?
well what i was asking, is there any air sensors hooked upto it, i know theres a spool of air sensors attached to it that have nothing to do with the resonator, so if i take it off, what should i use to wrap the big hole where the resonator was at... i cant really think of anything, a jar lid? LOL i have no idea, give me an idea because i am missing my intake ram sound right now but i need the fuel economy as much as possible.
mmm, i'm pretty sure, all connections are made along the intake. but there should be none on the resonator. You should be able to see. Just look at it.
Cheers
Matt

It will do nothing for anything else but sound. Those are put there to make it all quiet. If u remove it, it may sound a bit more throaty through the intake. Thats all.

It's basiclly chamber, pre-airfilter, connected to the "stock CAI"/air induction pipe. It quietens the incoming air charge and creates a vortex effect for even air dispersion over the air filter.

i did this on my previous nissan frontier. it made the motor a little louder, but i didnt feel any power gains. oh, and i used those rubber expansion plugs to plug up the holes.

It also trap heavier dust, dirt in there so they don't reach the filter. It'll help the filter last a bit longer. I'll leave the hole open into the fender cause its cold air in there.

i wouldnt do that if i were you, because the resonator is after the air filter, so if you leave it open to the engine dirt and oil and dust, you will be doing more damage to your engine than anything else
