Sorta normal really. Most cars experience a drop in performance in higher temps.
Do you have an open filter? and is your coolant and thermostat in good shape?

Everything in the engine is stock. everything is reading good.
I would assume its normal. shocker I've been in cool/cold climates from fall to mid spring here, and a hit of a summer temp felt o' so different on the car.
Yea, I have a 5sfe 94 and I get the same thing here in FL. The car feels very slugish on hot days. Its probably normal though but in more powerful cars you rarly use 100% of their power reserve thats why you can never tell if the car is a little more sluggish or not with a more powerful car but with this car I often floor it 3/4 of the way to get into traffic and I relly feel it.
Can anyone confirm this? would using better coolant (as opposed to what they sell at WM) help?
i'm in houston, our temps on average are HIGH! I understand your frustrations at times. I've learnt to live with it in terms of power. As far as a/c goes, i beg to differ...if you have ever driven another car, you will always compare that to your toyota. (i'm not referring to high end cars like lexus, mb or bmers). Toyota a/c are best, even my 5sfe can cool me down on a houston's summer day like 100+. Just make your cars tinted, park in a well shaded area, and just air out your car (open windows for a minute or two) before rolling them up. IN power terms, i agree...we do have 135hp cars, what can we expect!!
My 3VZ Stick is just fine on hot days no difference in acceleration, yesterday was very hot in NYC, the "diy ported" intake sounded even more aggressive in high heat because it's probably fully open to get max cold air. When my A/C wouldn't leak, it would get so coooold inside the car that the windows would form full condensation on the outside in high heat and traffic. U can really feel the acceleration difference in early 1991 accord and a 94 accord I drove in high heat with A/C, very slow response.

I think the heat affects all engines...I noticed the KA24DE in my 240sx and even the 2JZ-GTE in my Supra was a lot slower on hot summer days.
You get less oxygen per the same volume of air, plus the hotter intake charge causes the engine to retard timing to prevent pinging, all of which reduce power. Most probably, AC is also on causing more parasitic power loss..
It probably has something to do with the less amount of oxygen in the air. Also the higher heat makes the engines change the timing to limit engine noise. And i agree with the A/C. I feel i huge difference with it on. Once on the highway i was doing about 75 with the ac on. I turned it off to see what kind of power i was losing. When i turned it off my car went up to about 85.

Seatbelt! you're piloting a vehicle were dual vvt-i hitts harder then VTEC and the torquesteer can possibly snap your wrists
Higher temperature --> less dense air --> less oxygen per volume --> less combustion --> less power
Higher temperature --> increased intake temperature --> higher temperature throughout combustion process --> more prone to knock --> engine pulls timing --> less power
Higher temperature --> less effective heat transfer via radiator --> higher temperature coolant --> less effective cooling --> more prone to knock --> engine pulls timing --> less power

i live down in st pete fl. i love the a/c in this car. it works just as good as my moms 99 cam. same engines i kno but yea, even on hot summer days it doesnt really drag much, unless i drive for an hour or more then it will slug a bit. even with the a/c on it does good. and i just got 400 miles off a full tank on only city driving so i was suprised lol. air on most of the time and i have somewhat of a leadfoot.

^ Come on you have to be exaggerating a little. You get 400 miles per tank, in the city with the AC on and a lead foot? I must have a v8 or something then.
I noticed the loss, it was pretty blatant. First time it hit~93 here, I noticed I had to give it a healthy shot of gas to get it moving into traffic [more than normal].

There are ways around it, remapping the microsoft servers, stopping the service, using a firewall. But what I personally do is close my curtains, wrap my computer in tin foil and yell "BRING IT ON" over and over again. -Drunken_panda
