--click--click---start--? ecu problem?

My 94 V6 is doing odd things when starting. It will click once, twice or three times, and then start. I had this problem a couple weeks ago and replaced the battery (not brandy new, but with a good charge) and that solved the problem up until now. At its worst a couple weeks ago, it would not start at all toward the end, which seemed like a dead battery. I can always buy a brand new batter, but do not want to waste $80 if it is not the battery.

What could be going on? Is there an ECU that is going bad or is there something simpler? Any ideas as to what is going on?
Thanks!

my car had a similar issue last winter that turned out to be the starter contacts. are you saying that you go to start it and when you turn the key it just clicks for a couple tries and then starts? if so Im thinking its gotta be those starter contacts

yup, that is exactly what is happening. i replaced the negative battery contact as that seemed to be loose, but obviously it did not solve the problem. hmmm. are the starter contacts difficult to access?

Sounds like either your starter contacts need to be cleaned, you have a loose ground somewhere or your starter is starting to fail. If its the latter you can have it tested at Autozone for free and they'll let you know what condition the starter is in.

Yeah where do you get the starter contacts? And what about the bearings, do those often nedd be changed too?

BTW i was wondering if anyone bothered to rebuild their own alternator. Seems like a job that is not so easy because you need a press , etc. But has anyone done it?

Here's the link for the starter solenoid contact replacement:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=166530

The dealer sells the replacement contacts. Just be sure to call ahead to see if your dealer carries them and also to bring the contacts from your starter with you.

When mine did this it was the battery. To be sure take it to autozone or advance auto parts for a free battery test. Then check all your connectors. Good luck
