3rd Generation Quiter Engine

The other day I was looking at my friend's 92 Lexus ES300 and I was impressed with how smooth and quite the engine was.

Is there any way to quite down my 96 Camry like the ES300?

My Camry has 64K mils and is not a beater so it's well maintained. No mod make to engine bay and it still has the foam thingy under the hood. Most of the sound came from alternator belt and pully assembly. It gets louder when the radiator fan kicks in.

Any suggestion?

92-96 camry engines are not that loud but they are kind of jerky tho...im sure there are ways to "kill" some of the engine noise...don't really know what material is used in the engine compartment...

I used to think the same until I stand next to that ES300. I have to lean over the hood to heard its engine noise.

I think you could try to add some more insulation to the body. Like a thicker hood pad or double up some. And you could also paint the underside of the hood with undercoating or sound deadener stuff. And you could do the same inside the car, like along the firewall and under the carpets, and inside the doors. Then this might quiet it some.
I dont know if its realistic to try and make the engine quieter...i cant imagine how you'd go about it without spending a $$$ mint or it just becomes impractical.

The idea of adding more sound deadner materials under the hood does came to mind, but no sure that would interfere with engine moving parts or obstruct heat ventilation though
