Intermittent Electrical Symptom

Hello guys!

MY name is Al and I own a 2001 Camry LE runnig a 2.2L 4 cylinder engine. I bought the car used from a reputable dealer in Pennsylvania in July 2006 with 59,000 miles on it. After two days and less than 100 miles later the catalayic converter failed. This then precluded multiple trips to a distant Toyota dealer here in New York and was only concluded with the diagnosis that the car peformed within the specifications of the Toyota Manufacturer because the symptom could not be duplicated. Each time I took it home in hopes that the gremlin would disappear but it would reoccur to no avail. So I rrecently had a friend put it on a MAC tools porto-scanner and he found the indentical symptom the ECU was spitting back out: P0300 Multiple Cylinder Random Misfire Detected. This was the same symptom which was last detected by the dealer's equipment but to no avail there was no fix executed because the symptom could not be recreated by any of the lead mechanics at either of the three Toyota dealers I"ve dealt with since the purchase.

I need help on this one bad because I live in the projects and have no where to store my car if it breaks down seriously demaged. Where do I go from here guys?

Thanks for your time AL.

Random missfire codes are usually caused by 1 of 3 things. Faulty spark plug wires, faulty spark plugs, or faulty coils. I would start by replacing the plugs and plug wires yourself, since they are fairly easy to do. Don't forget to use antiseize compound on the plug threads before reinstalling. When doing the plug wires, do one wire at a time and match it up to the new set to get the one of the proper length.

Didn't you get some kind of warranty form the selling used car dealer? Even if you didn't, maybe he will do this for you as a good will gesture. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Good luck.

Mike

HEY it's Rummy again,

How do I go about getting my car serviced under this bulletin ;I have been told by several other techs that this is the problem. I have been to two Toyota dealers and they just won't swap it out. Do I just bring it to the dealer and ask for a computer servicing or am I entitiled to another computer. Where can I specifically find a hard copy of this service bulletin for my computer.

Thanks for your reply,

Rummy Suede.
