Gas Strut Conversion

G'day all

I have a kinda interesting question. My Mum just brought a brand new car (Holden Tigra) and it has gas struts to hold up the bonnet. It looks nice. My Dad's has the same.

So i was wondering could i add them to a gen2? with a bit of customization, i think it would look nice and a bit more special

you'll need to cut and weld up some mounts etc, possible but do you have the know how and tools to complete it. i still prefer a bar to hold up the bonnet, removes the possibility of falling bonnets

I can get the tools, just not the know how, true tho, you can't have a falling bonnet with a bar lol

if you are keen on it still, have a look at some cars that do come with it so you know what needs to be done. essentially you need two mounting points, one on the body to hold the bottom of the strut, and one on the bonnet itself to push it up.

if you do decide to do this, one thing to check is that they arent in the way when you close the bonnet

If you can talk to "Lexusmech", he has put gas struts on his ES250. Perhaps he can point you in the right direction.
