dont do it your self

personally painting metal that has high heat (possibly) and is prone to be hit by flying debris (ie. pebbles and the such) I reccomend that you not paint them your self because they will chip like hell and look like ass. I you want the gun metal look, I think that a look like that could be achived while still retaning the "natural finish" of the metal by takeing them to a local "anodizer" (i think that they are many "electric" anodizing processes that are avalible (plating, ect), that can create the "darker metal" - like finsh that you are looking for), as for getting them white I reccomend getting them powder-coated at a local paint shop, due to the ruggedness produced by this process of refinishing metals, and other materials, I had my old dirtbike's frame powdercoated "Kawasaki - Green" and it came out hella nice, it also NEVER CHIPPED, and belive me i have taken my share of "dips" , well if you need more info drop me a line and hopefully i can help you out.

well... Later man!

painting rims

i painted my rims on my civic using a high heat primer and high heat gloss black. they came out great. i agree with the other poster but with powdercoating, money will be an issue. i haven't had any chips...yet. but if money is any issue, the local auto zone or kragen's carry rim paint in a couple colors that will work just fine. just be sure to follow the can's instructions to prevent drips or spots that are overpainted.
