2nd Generation Headlight Covers

Hey,

I own a 1991 Toyota Camry ZX 2.0. My Camry failed to get a warrant of fitness because the headlights are slightly out of focus. The vechicle testing depo told me I have to give the inner side of the headlights covers a good wipe. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to take headlight covers off to wipe the underbelly. I popped the bonet and detached the 2 clips securing the top of each headlight, but couldn't figure out what else I needed to do to unhinge the headlight covers. Does anyone else know what to do next? Any advice would be much appreciated...

Cheers

i think you mean the clear lens of the headlight, right? well if you want to wipe the inside of the lens, you'd need to bake open the headlight, which can be difficult if you don't know what you're doing. I think that the outside of the lens has become yellowed over the years instead; it is rare that the inside of the headlight becomes dirty if it is properly sealed. I recommend using a plastic polish on the outside of the headlight if its plastic.

the headlights should be glass. so you can try and bake the headlights open. if you search you can find many topics. or you can try this one. take the headlight off the car. should only be 4 bolts on the back, 2 under the corner light, and probably have to take off the grill. then you can pour some kind of cleaner into the headlight. like CLR, just shake it, spray it out clean with water, and just let it dry, that might work too. good luck
