Rear clunking noise

My 98 had the noisy suspension - replaced the front and rear struts and that took care of the front noise, but the back still had the much complained of clunks, squeeks, groans, etc. I took the best advice here and swapped out the rear sway bar bushings...easy job, no special tools and it is quite as can be...amazing, really. I've been suffering and trying to figure this out for a long time....and the old bushings look fine.

your post doesnt make sense.

i assuming you still have the noise?!?!

Try replacing the strut mounts. My suspension was noisy as, and I replaced sway bar bushings, struts, springs and still had the noise. ended up being the strut mounts. Take your car to a suspension joint and get them to check it out.

Sorry for the confusion...the noise is Gone....quiet as can be. I had replaced the struts and mounts (which quieted down the front). It was the bushings in the rear. And I could not see or feel a thing by looking.

If I was doing it over...I'd start with the bushings.

Hey Bob,

Where did you get the rear sway bar bushings?
What did they cost?

Thanks

Tony

I have a friend if the auto rebuilder business who had several Camrys in his yard. I just pulled a couple off...one thing I found out, allthough they all look the same, there are different diameters so you have to match them up. This can't be over a $10 part from Toyota...just two rubber grommets. Car's still quiet...wish I'd done this first instead of last..but that's how it always is, isn't it?

My '97 clunks also, but I know the struts are new, would like to try the bushing replacement. Anyone possibly have a part number? Thanks!
