So I took my Camry in yesterday about my rust issues. The lady kept calling it an '03. I finally was just like "No, it's an '02." She went on to tell me that no, it's not an '02. They didn't start putting the VVT-i in until '03. And this lady is the customer relations manager at the dealership. You'd think she would know I would know what year my car is.

I think that both of you had a misunderstanding is all....
she probably thought that you had a v6...the 1mz didn't get vvti until mid 2003, wheras all the 4bangers had vvti
Yeah, but she was saying this as she's standing in front of the car with the hood up. The i4 was staring right at her. As for the differences, and all, I'll admit, I did not know the V6 didn't have it, but when the hood is open, I can tell teh difference between the two engines. Hell, I don't even know what benefit vvt-i has, if any. It sounds like Toyota speak for VTEC... Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong, all I know is, it's a Camry, and it goes, and that's teh extent of my relationship with this car. I've got my fun car, and I've got my every day car.

not quite as advanced as VTEC though. VTEC uses a separate cam that is used at a certain rev point to allow better induction. It produces much more top end power.
VVTi is simply Varible Valve Timing. All it does is change when the valves open and shut according to the rev range to maximise fuel efficiency and engine smoothness. there is no geat power advantage.
I'll take VTEC thanks....

Toyota also has another technology called VVTL-i which has valve lifting as well.
Remember, it's not WHAT you know but WHO you blow.
LOL,
next time tell her to check your vin! tell her to get you a new vin plate and a new vin sticker for the side of the car that states it is a 2003. LOL!
