Camry gas mileage

Read this link. Very interesting. Apparently poor tire inflation and dirty air filter doesnt have a big impact on gas mileage.

I read the article, thanks.

I thought the experts stated tire inflation can effect gas mileage by 3%. After doing the math, 1mpg falls into this range. Still, 3% seems much greater then 1mpg. Having excessively low tire air pressure for my Camry would work out then to about $1 per week in costs at todays fuel prices.

The Mountaineer would have an even lower drop in mpg, as 3% of say 20mpg is about 0.6mpg.

As to a clogged air filter, if less air flow means less fuel flow, this would mean less HP. Something needs to increase to compensate for this loss or MPH will drop. As in more engine RPM to restore HP.

Don't know about Camry's air filter but in my 97 Civic I changed a dirty air filter and went from 27mpg to 33.5 mpg. This was about 3 months ago.

i wouldnt chalk up the added gas mileage to the new air filter, especially since you are comparing your gas mileage during the winter with the old filter to now with warmer temps and a new filter. temperature affects gas mileage quite a bit.
