I thought the experts stated tire inflation can effect gas mileage by 3%. After doing the math, 1mpg falls into this range. Still, 3% seems much greater then 1mpg. Having excessively low tire air pressure for my Camry would work out then to about $1 per week in costs at todays fuel prices.
The Mountaineer would have an even lower drop in mpg, as 3% of say 20mpg is about 0.6mpg.
As to a clogged air filter, if less air flow means less fuel flow, this would mean less HP. Something needs to increase to compensate for this loss or MPH will drop. As in more engine RPM to restore HP.
