sputtering start

I did a search on this problem but I couldn't find anything with a sputtering start. When I turn the key, the engine sputters for about a second before it catches. I noticed this problem a few days ago when I was about to go to my class. It sputtered for a fraction of a second and then it caught so I didn't think too much about it. Then it slowly started to get worse after each day until about an hour ago when I started the car. The sputtering reminded me of when you wake up with a hangover and after a second it was gone and it was running. But when I'm driving, the car feels slower than usual. It takes me longer to get up to speed. It's dark right now so I couldn't check much under the hood but the indicator on the battery said that it was okay.

okay nevermind i fixed the problem. But only after the car died right when I was leaving Subway

It was the battery. I checked the indicator but it said that it was still good. My dad bought the car back in '99 and he gave it to me last year and he didn't tell me that he didn't change the battery. I'm just glad that it didn't die out on me on the freeway.
