Lightbulb Confused Shopper

I am a confused shopper. I had my mind set on the 07 Carmy I4 but after reading a thread on acceleration it concerns me. So I am thinking of the V6 model now. The stuff I want comes up to $24,887. Invoice is 20,504 and MSRP is 23,040. Base on the invoice price what do you think I can get the dealer to start the negiotating on.

I looked at the gas prices and there is not much of a difference.
18.5 gallon tank

I4
24/33
444mpg/610mpg

V6
22/31
407/573mpg

difference
37/37

For those of you who have a I4 do you regret it base on what you have read about the lag in acceleration. If you had to buy again, would you go for a V6. Does anyone foresee that gas prices will ever go down or do you think it will keep on rising.

Your opinions welcome.

I have an '07 SE V6 with 200 miles on it, bought it May 13, 2006. I chose the V6 because my last car was an Inline 4 ('97 Nissan Altima SE) 2.4L. I wanted a 6-cylinder. It's like I said before, if you are THAT worried about gas prices, then the V6 probably isn't for you.

I hate to tell you this, but if you're going by gas pricing, it only goes up. Gas prices going down is only a temporary relief until the gas companies figure out how much they can jack us at the pump. Gas prices will never be the same as they were, say in 1998. But I have a gen3 5sfe, and although there's an acceleration lag, there's far more room in the engine bay to play with. But if you're planning on keeping things stock for the most part, get the v6. They've gone a long way with the I4 in the camry, but it's still not up there with the other 4 bangers out there. I also have a gen5 with a I4, the acceleration lag in the gen5 is minor compared to the gen3. You should probably just test drive both to get a feel for yourself.

i drive both on a daily basis and the v6 in the camry is the same one as the avalon and the rav-4, it will straight haul ass, i have a gen 3 2 door v6 (1mz-fe) and its a really peppy car but the 3.5 2uz? just dominates any naturally aspirated v6 ive driven, plus the automatic is a 6 speed, and the gearing on that thing is unbelieveable, the I4 isn't a bad platform but driving it reminds me of driving a scion XB just because it feels like im going nowhere real fast, but its whatever you prefer! i work at a dealership so i get to drive em fresh off the truck, and if it were up to me i would get the V6, it will close the 50-80 gap in the blink of an eye and it never quits pulling!

Get a I4 with a 5 speed manual and you won't have to worry about the lag or the problems the 6 speed auto is having. Plus they are funner!!

The I4 will get 3-6 mpg better than the V6 in real city driving.

The highway is probably close to the 2 mpg EPA diff.

I4 is cheaper to buy, cheaper to operate, cheaper to maintain but you lose a few seconds in acceleration.

My I4 has no problem maintaining 77 mph on cruise control loaded with 4 male adults and 4 heavy golf bags.

Also http://www.toyota.com/images/vehicle...y/features.pdf

and check pricing info at Edmunds. I got mine at invoice but doubt you'd snag a SE at that.

Yes the grill is also different as well as the headlights are darker.
