My temp gauge is making it appear as my engine is overheated and my tac gauge makes it appear as it is idling 50 rpms higher than it actually is ...this the second time it did it in a week and it is getting me worried... here are some pics..
this is when i pulled over to see if it was realy overheating...i turned the engine off and took my key out and the temp gauge only went down half way and my tac gauge didn't go down all the way.
There is a pic of when i started it up after i was sure it wasn't overheated.
and thats a pic after i disconnected the battery and plugged it back in....magicaly everything is back to normal.

Happened to me 1.5 months ago after oil change. I disconnected the battery negative cable and so far it hasn't done anything funky. Since you have the pic, bring it to the dealer and show them that pics (my dealer told me it was fine and told me that it was my fault by doing oil change in a quick lube place).

The sensor is defective, or there is an intermittent short in the connection/wiring. It may just be a dirty/corroded connector. Next time it happens, try disconnecting it to see if the gauge returns to zero. If it remains high, the short is in the wiring.
It just did it again this week, i have videos this time. Now it said my engine was running at 3000 rpms at idle. And 2000 rpms when it wasn't even running. Will post up videos in a lil.

I cannot think of this "ghost in the machine" problem that appears in so many cars as being caused by anything but a ground problem. Figuring out why removing the battery ground cable seems to eliminate the problem could get into a lot of electronics esoterica.
If not under warranty, these problems might be addressed by finding the panel ground locations in the service manuals and servicing those grounds by removing wires (battery negative disconnected) cleaning the connectors and the posts or screws, and reconnecting the wires.
If the cars mentioned in the thread are under warranty, certainly approach the dealer first. If there is hesitation, doubletalk, or blaming you, call Toyota and complain immediately, before the car DOES go out of warranty. Document day and time of conversations, and the substance of those conversations, to the best of your ability, including the name and title of those you speak with. Adam Goldfine of AutoScoop recommends you speak to the dealership general manager, as well.

You too? If theres one thing thats true, you can trust the dealers to give the straight poop, i sure do. My dealer told me if i used a non-toyota oil filter my car would spontaneously combust and then explode.

Yes, but did he tell you about the incurable case of "E.D.?"
