2nd Generation 5s tran on 3s?

Hey guys. Its been awhile since I posted so incase you all forgot I have a 1990 Camry with a JDM 3sfe. It has an automatic transmission. This is a problem to me. Today, a friend mentioned to me that he has a 1990 Celica (GTS I think) that has a rod thrown in the motor but it has a 5 speed transmission that worked good when the motor was blown. So my question is: will the transmission from the celica mount to my 3sfe. I think the engine from the celica mayb be a 5s. My friend said that it should work but the flywheel may have to be changed. I can get the celica for very cheap and if the transmission will work I'll buy it. Also, what other parts are compatible between the celica 5sfe and the 3sfe from my camry? Thanks in advance guys. Peace.

From what I read it should work. Toyota Nation had a few past posts on this subject.
Also do a Google search with the words "5SFE 3SFE". There is a lot of info out there.

1. there is no flywheel on an auto. there is a flexplate which bolts to the torque converter like a flywheel would bolt to a clutch on a manual tranny.

2. i believe it will bolt right up. i dont have personal experience, but if you PM 88LE, he will know for sure.

You may be able to use the clutch master cylinder, clutch pedal, and brake pedal from the Celica. I'm not sure though.

For the axles. You may have to use the inners from the Celica and the outers from your Camry.

The jackshaft (passenger side axle that goes from the mount to the tranny) may be different between the Celica and Camry.

Also the jackshaft from the Celica may not fit into your existing mount.

^ Just some things you'll have to figure out.
