2nd Owner --Expired Repair Recalls. Q. of Timing Belt, also.
Bought my '96 Camry from a used (strictly Toyota) dealer, and had it serviced there for a year. (Dealer claimed that they had serviced the vehicle for most of its life, so, of course, I asked for its maintanence history for my records. They also told me that the timing belt had been replaced at 60K. After waiting several weeks after purchase for their promised paperwork, they told me but "their computer records don't go back beyond the last year or two."
Went to an authorized Toyota dealer for an oil change this week. When they pulled my vin number, they could find no evidence of any recall repairs having been done on this car ... ever. Yet there is apparently a list of them that have already expired. Anyone encounter this? Suggestions? They also told me that there should be a sticker over the timing belt that indicates that it has been replaced. Sure enough -- no sticker. Anyone know if this is mandatory or could the timing belt have been replaced even though there is no sticker? Thanks.
the only way to tell is to open up the top of the timing belt cover and take a peak. check for cracks in the belt. if there are cracks, you will have to replace the belt.
i doubt you will find much old info on such an old car.
if you would like the timing belt done, if you find that it needs to be, i can do it for you.i am highly experienced in all things camry. i am in southington.
Call Toyota corporate customer service at 800-331-4331. Have your VIN number handy. With the VIN number they should be able to tell you what recalls have been done and if there are any outstanding recalls.
hi, camreality vbmenu_register("postmenu_1287830", true);
Take it easy if the car has no problem then all you have to do is change the timing belt and oil+filter, also the gear oil and filter for safeside, then you should be ok.
Thats what I thought. There is no recall repair expiration. Maybe the dealer was trying to sucker you out of money. I know that there was a recall for Gen3 steering wheel coming off. I never got it done.
You can follow this link if you are wondering if there are recalls taht pertain to your vehicle. I work for Nissan in their warranty claims department and if there is a recall/campaign open on a vehicle it will stay in their system until the campaign is performed. IF all campaigns are performed then it is possible that the vehicle can drop out of the system. Maintenance records you will most likely not be able to find because the manufacturer does not worry about those until the engine blows up and you havent maintained the car. then it is your responsibility to provide those not the dealer/manufacturer. For more info on recall you can also go to www.nhtsa.gov and look around there.
