4th Generation Hello - New to the Camry Forum

Hello Fellow Members,

I'm new to TN and glad to join the club. Have been reading all the great stuff on this forum so far.

I've a 2001 Camry V6 thats totally stock (for the time being). Bought it used in 2005 and I've had it for a year now. So far no problems with my Camry except a blown high mount stop light bulb. So I'm happy with the car.

Thinking of upgrading the stock springs to H&R (a popular choice in this forum) to improve the handling and lower it a bit. Will the ride be still fairly comfortable if I upgrade to H&R but keep the tires at 65 series?

I don't mind a slight firming of the ride but don't want it to become harsh or jarring.

My car has 95K kilometers and the stock dampers still feel good, but is it worth considering to replace the dampers at the same time if I plan to upgrade to H&R springs?

Hope to hear from you guys.

Welcome to the forum.

Typically, when one changes the springs, it's usually simpler to change the struts (dampers) too since you're already in there. Just makes it easier so that you don't have to get into the suspension again when you want to change the dampers. Just do both while you're at it, save on some labor. Ride quality will remain pretty good with 65 series since that's the stock size if i remember correctly. It will be stiffer due to new and stiffer springs/dampers but the th 65 tire won't be as harsh as a 45 series would, for instance.

Hope this helped.

welcome.. but learn to post in the right place.

Introduction Forum is here --> http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/fo...daysprune=&f=5

However, for your questions, this is the right place...

H&R, Eibach, Whiteline are all quality springs. For Gen four, a good drop, awesome look and a comfy ride i'd pick Tein.

If you want to replace the struts too, most gas struts are good with springs. Anything from Monroe to KYB GR2 to Tokico are good.

4th Generation Springs & Struts

Hi WhiteCamry, Zoni,

Thanks guys for the feedback.

I'll seriously look into replacing the struts when I upgrade to the H&R springs; will check out suppliers here for tokico or kyb. Will look for struts that are close to OE so hopefully the ride will still be comfortable but firm.

Thats whats good about the Camry, the suspension really smoothes out the rough stuff. Sometimes its hard to find the best firm yet smooth compromise.

Had a ride recently in a friends 2005 Accord, the ride was rather firm on OE suspension and tires. It thumped quite jarringly over speed bumps on a familar stretch of road whereas the Camry goes over with a nice muted thump.

shop around, and find more info before you make your mind up about which brand of spring and strut to get. like i said, for a good ride, and good lowering, do TEIN springs. KYB isnt as good as Tokico in my opinion, but check out some of the threads on TN which rate the items against each other... do some searches... www.toyotanation.com/forum/search.php
