XLE Question

Is is possible to order an XLE I4 at a dealer without the sun roof? I know sunroof is standard and I like the XLE model. If this is possible, how much do you think I can save?

if you worried about weight then its not that big of a deal so just keep it i think its nice to have it and if it only saves you a buck then by all means just keep it IMO

I think the sunroof was actually an OPTION, but almost all had it. My '96 XLE has it ont he options list on the invoice.

I think the XLE sunroof is standard. I like the XLE I4 model but I dont like the sunroof on any cars. If a dealer was able to order it without the sunroof, I thinking your saving more than $100 or $200.

I'd say try an SE I4. Moonroof is optional, and so are headted seats.

Thank you ASG14...I like this package. Now my question is...does the SE I4 come with woodgrain finish?

Indeed, the moonroof is standard on the XLE -- there's just no way you're gonna get one without it.

[Beats the heck out of me why anyone would "dislike" a moonroof, though, unless you're like seven feet tall and need the headroom. After I got my first car with a sunroof/moonroof a couple of decades or so, I'll never want a car without one. Truly one of life's little pleasures is having the options that the Camry moonroof gives you -- oh, how nice it is to cruise around at sunset with the roof open!]

That said, if you want the leather seats, you can't get 'em in an LE. The idea of going for an SE is a good one, as that'd be the only thing you could configure WITH the leather seats but WITHOUT the moonroof. Not too sure you'll ever see one built that way on the dealer lots, though -- I would expect that "leather" would be ordered on cars with the moonroof already specified. Don't know if you're into the SE ride, either -- I also want the ultra-smooth XLE ride instead of the SE "sportier" ride -- I've had enough of this "oh, sporty means a stiff suspension that transmits the bumps right to your body" business -- just let me go smoothly and comfortably in peace and quiet.

Oh, and also note that the SE won't have a bunch of XLE-type stuff like the dual-zone auto climate system, sliding armrest, reclining rear seats, your fancy wood-grain trim, and so on. Including the one thing I really wanted when I got my XLE -- that "multi-function display" with the information like cruising range remaining, average MPG, etc. So, a quandry, all because you don't want a moonroof.

You might let us know "why" you don't want the moonroof, and perhaps we could help talk you into it -- unless, of course, it's just a simple matter of needing the headroom.....

Call me old fashion even thought Im still young Im just not into the sunroof thing. I live in part of the US where it snows at lot during the winter time. As the car age I dont want worry that one day it will start to leak and destroy my interior. I know someone is gonna jump on me and say that is not going to happen but personally I just dislike it. Im glad I opened this thread cause I found what I was looking for in the SE model. I would have not consider the SE model until one of the members brought it up and stated it had the features I was looking for. If only it had the woodgrain I would say I found my dream car. The XLE was out of my budget anyway but the LE I was really considering.

The SE as far as I know (From the '02-'06 style) has a more sporty interior. So no wood grain. It would may have a brushed aluminum type look. Your BEST bet would be to go to your local dealer and ask to look at both the SE I4 and XLE I4. The SE has a slightly different exterior look, such as th front grille and headlights. But yeah, as stated before, there are many options on the XLE that just are not even an option on the CE/LE/SE/Hybrid.

Moonroofs are about an $900.00 option.

Reading your new post, I'll try to talk you into a moonroof now.

My car was mistreated by the previous owners. It's a '96 XLE V6 with a moonroof. The moonroof has had NO issues, while many other things have. I took down my headline the other day to do some custom wook, and was AMAZED at the quality of the moonroof compared to ther cars. It has a complete wrap around water catch with 4 drains (one on each corner) to prevent leaking into the car int he case of the rubber sealing cracking. It is a VERY well built one which I am happy to see. So your chances of it leaking are very small. I even have the moonroof opened when it snows as I like the fresh air, and it brings just enough air in to not make it too cold. If you want pics of what the moonroof looks like from the inside since my headliner is off, let me know. But the SE a good choice too.
