4th Generation EGR question

i just got a check engine and when i checked out the code it read as insufficient air flow, EGR valve. i was wondering if this could be repaired easily (not a mechanic) and what happens if im about to take a long trip with that problem. originally when i got the check engine light it came off on its own 2 days later and came on about 3 weeks later.

i heard from another post in this forum that if you top up beyond the point it can hold then you get that problem. (guilty as charged).

anyways, any help on this matter would be apreciated thanks!!

its a 2000 toyo camry 4 cyl

Not sure if topping off causes the problem. But most commonly causes are an EGR hose is not connected or has a leak; EGR passage is clogged by carbon build up; or a defective EGR valve or vacuum module.

Make sure all your hoses are connected, check for leaks, clean out carbon if any on the ERG valve and connecting hoses.

When your EGR system fails, you will probably notice rough idling, maybe stalling. NOX emissions increases, so you will most likely fail emission tests.
